Overview
The Machine Operator supports high-quality film production, monitors manufacturing processes, and maintains a safe, clean work environment. This role collaborates with the Team Supervisor, Process Department, and Maintenance to ensure product quality meets customer specifications and plant performance goals.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all plant safety policies; conduct monthly Behavior-Based Safety and Quality audits.
- Complete required certifications, including safety orientation and powered industrial truck training (forklift, pole truck, clamp truck, claw truck).
- Maintain proper housekeeping in work areas using 5S and Lean Manufacturing standards.
Production & Quality Control
- Monitor film extrusion processes, web handling, raw materials, and finished product quality.
- Inspect finished goods against customer specifications and log test data in Quality Windows and line logs.
- Safely execute line thread-up, winding, core cutting, process roll care/cleaning, and screen pack changes.
- Ensure outgoing products are properly labeled, packaged, and tracked using FIFO inventory principles.
- Keep packaging and labeling supplies stocked for current and incoming shifts.
Maintenance & Team Collaboration
- Perform minor and preventative maintenance in coordination with the Maintenance team.
- Report line issues, extended downtime, quality defects, or safety concerns immediately to leadership.
- Assist with training new hires and complete assigned cross-training and task checklists within 90 days.
Skills and Experience
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Manufacturing experience preferred.
Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude; basic computer literacy for data entry.
Physical Demands: Continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping, and stretching. Ability to manually handle materials and lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment: Plant floor setting with exposure to fluctuating ambient temperatures ranging from 40°F to 120°F.
