Overview

Onin Staffing is seeking a detail-oriented, technically skilled Rotary Press Operator to join our converting team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, adjusting, running, and maintaining high-speed rotary die-cutting equipment to produce precision engineered components (such as gaskets, tapes, seals, and noise/vibration damping materials). The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical aptitude, an eye for tight tolerances, and a commitment to quality and safety standards.

Setup & Operation

  • Set up, calibrate, and operate rotary die-cutting presses in accordance with production schedules, engineering drawings, and work orders.

  • Mount tooling, dies, print cylinders, unwind/rewind shafts, and slitting attachments to required specifications.

  • Load raw materials (foams, rubbers, pressure-sensitive adhesives, films, and liners) and thread webs through proper tensioning and guide paths.

  • Adjust tension, speed, die pressure, registration, and laminating nip rolls to eliminate defects such as curl, wrinkles, or registration drift.

Quality Control & Inspection

  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, pin gauges).

  • Maintain strict adherence to customer tolerances, specifications, and internal quality management standards (ISO 9001 / IATF 16949).

  • Document production quantities, material scrap rates, cycle times, and inspection results in the company ERP/MES tracking system.

  • Immediately isolate and tag non-conforming materials to prevent defective parts from reaching downstream processes.

Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

  • Execute daily and preventative maintenance on assigned machinery, including cleaning, lubrication, blade inspection, and roller care.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, alignment, and die-cutting issues quickly to minimize machine downtime.

  • Participate in 5S workplace organization, lean manufacturing initiatives, and scrap-reduction projects.

Safety & Compliance

  • Strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, plant safety protocols, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and PPE requirements.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and debris-free press area throughout each shift.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience operating rotary die-cutting presses (e.g., Delta ModTech, Sysco, Preco, Mark Andy, or equivalent narrow-web rotary machinery).

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proven ability to read and interpret technical blueprints, engineering schematics, and job tickets.

    • Proficiency in using precision measurement tools (calipers, depth gauges, micrometers).

  • Material Familiarity: Experience handling multi-layer laminations, PSA tapes, open/closed-cell foams, elastomeric rubbers, and silicone liners.

  • Math & Problem Solving: Strong shop math skills (fractions, decimals, metric-to-imperial conversions) and mechanical troubleshooting capabilities.

  • Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in converting facilities serving the automotive, appliance, HVAC, or industrial manufacturing sectors.

  • Direct working knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or lean manufacturing (5S, Kaizen).

  • Forklift certification or material handling experience.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors for the duration of an 8- to 12-hour shift.

  • Ability to lift, push, and maneuver raw material rolls and tooling weighing up to 50 lbs regularly.

  • Manual dexterity to handle delicate web materials, align micro-adjustments, and handle sharp tooling safely.

  • Exposure to a typical manufacturing plant environment, including moderate noise levels (hearing protection provided), mechanical equipment, and moving machinery.
