Assistant Press Operator

Overview

The Assistant Press Operator works alongside the Press Operator to set up, operate, and maintain printing equipment while upholding high standards for safety, product quality, and operational efficiency. This role ensures finished goods meet customer specifications and maintains a clean, organized work area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Operational Support: Assist with press setup, operation, and control panel functions. Help maintenance personnel with equipment repairs and troubleshooting as needed.

  • Quality Control: Accurately test key print properties, read and interpret Job Discrete Routing Sheets, identify raw materials by part numbers, and enter data into Quality Windows to guarantee product meets specifications.

  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all facility safety guidelines, complete safety orientation and forklift certification training, and follow protocols for MSDS sheets, Standard Operating Conditions (SOC) sheets, and hazardous waste/solvent handling.

  • Housekeeping & Maintenance: Maintain proper solvent and ink handling procedures while keeping the press and surrounding areas clean, safe, and organized.

  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with press operators, maintenance staff, and plant personnel to maintain efficient workflow and open communication.

Skills and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Experience: Prior manufacturing or printing experience preferred.

  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude; basic computer literacy for data entry and operating press control panels.

  • Attributes: High attention to detail, strong troubleshooting abilities, and clear communication skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, bending, stooping, stretching, and manual dexterity. Must be able to distinguish letters and colors, and occasionally lift up to 35 lbs.

  • Environment: Active manufacturing plant setting with moving machinery and forklift traffic. Noise level is generally moderate with frequent exposure to high-noise areas requiring hearing protection.
