Overview
The Painter is responsible for maintaining the appearance and condition of campus buildings by performing interior and exterior painting, surface preparation, and minor repairs. This role supports the overall upkeep of university facilities, including classrooms, dormitories, offices, and common areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, patching, and priming
- Apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, doors, and fixtures
- Perform interior and exterior painting across campus buildings
- Repair drywall, fill cracks, and patch holes to ensure smooth surfaces
- Match paint colors and ensure consistent finishes throughout projects
- Maintain painting tools, equipment, and materials in good condition
- Follow safety procedures, including proper use of ladders and protective equipment
- Respond to maintenance requests and complete assigned work orders
- Assist with general maintenance tasks as needed
Daily Tasks:
- Inspect assigned areas for paint damage or needed repairs
- Prepare and protect work areas (cover floors, tape edges, etc.)
- Mix and apply paint using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment
- Patch and sand walls to create smooth surfaces
- Clean and store tools and materials after use
- Complete work orders and document completed tasks
- Coordinate with maintenance staff on larger repair projects
Skills and Experience
Experience with interior and exterior painting
Knowledge of surface preparation and finishing techniques
Ability to use painting tools and equipment safely
Attention to detail and quality workmanship
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Physical ability to stand, climb, and lift as needed
