Job Summary
The Torcher is responsible for safely using a cutting torch to cut metal according to work instructions. This position helps prepare materials for production while maintaining a safe and clean work area.
Responsibilities
- Operate an oxygen or plasma cutting torch to cut metal safely and accurately.
- Read work orders and follow instructions.
- Measure and cut materials to the correct size.
- Inspect materials for quality before and after cutting.
- Set up and maintain torch equipment.
- Report damaged equipment or safety concerns to a supervisor.
- Keep the work area clean and organized.
- Move materials using carts, forklifts, or cranes if trained.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) when required.
- Work with team members to meet daily production goals.
- Complete other assigned tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience using a cutting torch or working in manufacturing is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read a tape measure and follow basic instructions.
- Basic mechanical skills.
- Reliable and dependable.
- Able to work well with others.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for most of the shift.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, reach, and move materials throughout the day.
- Work in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Safety
- Follow all workplace safety rules.
- Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Keep your work area clean and safe.
