Overview

Machine Operation & Setup: Load CNC programs, select proper plasma/oxy-fuel torch tips, set cut parameters (amperage, gas pressures, torch height), and operate the plasma table safely and efficiently.

Material Handling: Safely load raw steel plate and sheet metal onto the cutting bed using overhead cranes, forklifts, or jib cranes; unload and stage finished parts.

Quality Assurance: Inspect cut parts for dimensional accuracy, bevel angles, and clean edges using tape measures, calipers, and micrometers against engineering blueprints.

Part Finishing: Perform primary part cleanup, including removing dross/slag, deburring edges using hand grinders, and tagging finished components for downstream fabrication or shipping.

Routine Maintenance: Perform daily operator preventive maintenance, including checking torch consumables (nozzles, electrodes), cleaning table slats, clearing slag buildup, and maintaining a clean work area.

File & Nesting Management: Review cut lists and nest files; make minor G-code or cut-sequence adjustments as necessary to maximize yield and minimize scrap metal.

Skills and Experience

CNC Equipment Operation: Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience operating CNC plasma cutting tables or CNC oxy-fuel burn tables in a metal fabrication or steel service center environment. Blueprint Reading: Proven ability to read and interpret technical fabrication drawings, cut sheets, weld symbols, and shop orders. Precision Measurement: Hands-on experience with shop measuring tools, including tape measures, dial/digital calipers, square tools, and micrometers. Material Handling Equipment: Prior experience operating overhead bridge cranes, plate clamps/magnets, and forklifts safely. Steel Knowledge: Basic understanding of steel grades (e.g., A36, stainless, aluminum) and plate/sheet gauges.
