Machine Technician

Location: El Paso, Texas

Schedule: Monday–Thursday: 7:00 AM–5:30 PM | Friday: 7:00 AM–1:00 PM (Optional Overtime)

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Role Summary

Responsible for keeping production equipment operating safely, accurately, and efficiently. This position performs machine setups, job changeovers, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and continuous improvement activities while supporting production and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and optimize rotary or flatbed die-cutting jobs according to production specifications.
  • Verify registration, cutting pressure, and scrap removal before production.
  • Work with engineering to ensure equipment installations and job setups are completed correctly.
  • Perform rapid machine changeovers, including dies, anvils, stripping tools, and make-ready components while minimizing downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues; escalate complex issues when necessary.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including lubrication, replacing belts and bearings, inspecting guards, sensors, knives, and anvils.
  • Monitor product quality by inspecting dimensions, score depth, edge quality, burrs, and waste removal.
  • Complete first-article inspections and in-process quality checks.
  • Maintain machine logs, downtime records, preventive maintenance documentation, and CMMS work orders.
  • Load and unload materials, perform core changes, thread material through equipment, and maintain proper web tension.
  • Enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, PPE, and 5S workplace standards.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Engineering to improve efficiency, yield, and machine performance.
  • Train machine operators on standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety practices, and LOTO procedures.
  • Maintain organized workstations and create purchasing lists for maintenance materials and supplies.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and purchasing.
  • Operate laser cutting equipment as a backup when needed.
  • Distribute, collect, and review preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Perform monthly equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience

  • 2–5+ years of experience operating or maintaining rotary or flatbed die-cutting or converting equipment.
Skills

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI systems.
  • Understanding of pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with machine setups, changeovers, and preventive maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with kiss-cutting, through-cutting, creasing, embossing, waste-matrix removal, and web handling.
  • Forklift experience or certification.
Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand for extended periods (8–12 hours).
  • Perform repetitive and detailed mechanical work.
Safety

  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Commitment to PPE requirements and safe work practices.
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational certificate preferred.
