Mold Setting Technician

Overview

 A Mold Setting Technician is responsible for installing, removing, setting, and maintaining molds used in injection molding operations. This role ensures molds are properly configured, equipment is operating efficiently, and production requirements are met while maintaining safety and quality standards. 

Skills and Experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Install, remove, and change injection molds according to production schedules and work instructions. 
  •  Set up and verify mold connections, including water lines, hydraulic lines, pneumatic lines, and electrical connections. 
  •  Perform mold changeovers efficiently to minimize equipment downtime. 
  •  Inspect molds, tooling, and equipment for wear, damage, or defects before and after installation. 
  •  Start up and shut down molding machines following established procedures. 
  •  Verify machine settings and process parameters in collaboration with process technicians and production supervisors. 
  •  Troubleshoot mold setup issues and assist in resolving production problems related to tooling and equipment. 
  •  Operate overhead cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely. 
  •  Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on molds and related equipment. 
  •  Maintain accurate records of mold changes, maintenance activities, and production information. 
  •  Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements and proper use of personal protective equipment. 
  •  Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. 
Required Qualifications

  •  High school diploma or GED required. 
  •  Previous experience in injection molding, mold setting, tooling, or manufacturing preferred. 
  •  Knowledge of mold change procedures and injection molding equipment. 
  •  Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and setup documentation. 
  •  Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. 
  •  Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, and electrical systems. 
  •  Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 
  •  Basic computer skills for data entry and production tracking. 
Physical Requirements

  •  Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the shift. 
  •  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move heavy tooling with the assistance of cranes or hoists. 
  •  Ability to work in varying temperatures and around moving machinery. 
  •  Manual dexterity and attention to detail when handling molds and equipment. 
Preferred Skills and Certifications

  •  Experience with injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment. 
  •  Knowledge of mold maintenance and troubleshooting techniques. 
  •  Overhead crane, hoist, or forklift certification. 
  •  Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles. 
  •  Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and workplace safety regulations.
