Job Summary: Machinist / CNC Operator

Role Overview

Under minimal supervision, this role sets up and operates manual, conventional, NC, and CNC machines. Responsibilities include precision bench work, fabrication, maintenance, repair, and alteration of both metallic and nonmetallic machinery parts, tools, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Operation: Setup and operate various machining centers, monitoring performance to detect malfunctions and making adjustments to stay within required tolerances.

  • Blueprint Reading: Study sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine exact dimensions, setup steps, and material sequence.

  • Quality & Inspection: Use precision gages and measuring instruments to ensure parts meet strict quality policies, with the authority to report non-conforming products.

  • Safety & Workplace Maintenance: Abide by ISO standards and safety procedures, wear required PPE (eye, foot, and hearing protection), and maintain a clean, organized work area.


Skills and Experience

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience & Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) preferred, completion of vocational training/apprenticeship, and a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience using or programming manual and automated tools.

  • Skills: Mechanically adept with strong attention to detail; ability to read precision measuring instruments and technical specifications; good communication and basic computer skills.

  • Math & Reasoning: Ability to apply practical shop math (fractions, percentages, ratios) and solve practical problems with limited standardization.

  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, lift/move up to 25 lbs regularly (and up to 35 lbs occasionally), operate an overhead crane, and possess strong close-range and depth-perception vision.
