Overview
Under the direction of the supervisor, the Welder/Fitter produces completed weldments and fabricated structures using raw materials, welding equipment, and engineering blueprints to meet production goals in accordance with company policies and procedures. This position requires a highly experienced individual with strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work with supervisors and managers to ensure all customer expectations and job specifications are met
- Comply with all company and OSHA safety standards
- Safely operate welding equipment, including filler rods, valves, gas cylinders, and MIG/TIG welding equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, sheet metal drawings, customer drawings, diagrams, weld symbols, and other technical instructions
- Interpret tolerances on customer drawings and weld parts within specifications
- Perform Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) and/or Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding on aluminum sheet metal, mild steel, and stainless steel ranging from 1/8” to 1/4” plate and extrusion
- Produce cosmetic welds with proper fusion, penetration, and structural integrity that meet applicable codes
- Build fixtures to assist in positioning and welding parts accurately
- Work independently and efficiently while contributing to a team environment
- Collaborate with quality control inspectors to meet or exceed customer expectations
- Meet established production and weld time standards
- Cross-train and assist with additional job tasks as needed
- Safely use hand and power tools, including die grinders, metal grinders, sanders, drills, and related equipment
- Meet critical shipping and production deadlines
- Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals
- Obtain certification to operate powered industrial trucks (PIT) and overhead cranes, if required
- Report non-conforming products and quality concerns
