Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the safe operation of campus facilities, equipment, and systems. This role supports the daily operations of the university by performing preventative maintenance, responding to service requests, and completing repairs in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings, classrooms, dorms, and common areas
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Complete work orders and respond to maintenance requests from staff and students
- Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce equipment downtime
- Inspect facilities and identify issues that require repair or replacement
- Maintain and repair doors, windows, locks, lighting, and fixtures
- Assist with setup and breakdown for campus events when needed
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards and regulations
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner
- Report major repair needs or safety concerns to supervisors
Skills and Experience
Daily Tasks:
- Respond to maintenance tickets (leaks, electrical issues, broken fixtures, etc.)
- Perform basic plumbing repairs such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing fixtures
- Replace light bulbs, ballasts, and electrical outlets
- Conduct HVAC checks and filter replacements
- Repair drywall, paint, and complete minor carpentry work
- Inspect campus buildings for safety hazards
- Move and set up furniture or equipment as needed
- Document completed work and update maintenance logs
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in general maintenance, facilities, or building repair
- Knowledge of basic HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, and stand for extended periods
