Overview
Position Summary
The Continuous Improvement Specialist drives operational excellence by delivering measurable productivity and efficiency gains across warehouse and distribution operations. This role leverages structured methodologies within the Copeland Business System to lead improvement initiatives, optimize processes, and build a culture of continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, project management, and standardization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead process improvement initiatives aligned with business strategic priorities.
- Develop and execute warehouse optimization projects by analyzing data, material flow, and space utilization.
- Implement warehouse engineering tools and methodologies, including slotting, capacity analysis, cycle time studies, layouts, and material flow optimization.
- Analyze and interpret data (sales, inventory, transaction logs) to generate actionable insights and drive decision-making.
- Plan and coordinate warehouse operations and product transfers, ensuring efficient movement of materials.
- Map current-state processes, design future-state improvements, and implement changes while quantifying cost savings.
- Standardize processes and documentation across distribution center operations.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source warehouse equipment such as racks, containers, and accessories.
- Lead capital projects and cost-saving initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
Skills and Experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience (4+ years in continuous improvement).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in warehousing, distribution, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, material handling, labor standards (time studies), layouts, and material flow optimization.
- Proven analytical skills with the ability to assess cost impacts, labor savings, and operational improvements.
- Strong planning, time management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is a plus.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Familiarity with warehouse design, storage systems, and material flow tools (e.g., Kanban, single-piece flow, ABC inventory).
- Working knowledge of MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) and MTM (Method-Time Measurement) preferred.
