Maintenance Assistance

Overview

The Maintenance Assistant performs general maintenance duties including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith and energy. Performs and assists with general maintenance duties including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith and energy. Installs new equipment and repairs and/or replaces defective equipment. Cleans, services, oils and/or adjusts equipment. Operates and conducts routine preventive maintenance on College vehicles; notifies appropriate personnel of any vehicle maintenance required. Performs preventative maintenance and part repairs according to schedule. Utilizes the college's work order system (CMMS) to note time spent and the work performed relative to specific work request. Prepares work order material by pulling from stock to meet technical and trade requirements. Responds to inquiries and assists technical staff from carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith and energy. Communicates with city inspectors and vendors, as needed. Adheres to safety and health regulations. Performs other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Windows environment, and internet research) 
  • General maintenance experience including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, and energy systems support 
  • Skilled in safe operation of hand tools and power tools 
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail 
  • Able to meet deadlines in fast-paced and high-intensity work environments 
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team 
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and shifting work demands 
  • Flexible availability for rotating shifts, evenings, and operational closures as needed 
  • Strong commitment to organizational goals, mission, and service standards 
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance procedures, and technical manuals
