Overview
Position Summary
The Rig Welder performs structural and mechanical welding, fabrication, and repair work on drilling rigs, ensuring all work meets applicable codes, safety standards, and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding and fabrication on rig structures and equipment, including:
- Substructures, masts/derricks, pipe racks, skids
- Equipment supports, handrails, guards, and brackets
- Execute welding using SMAW (stick), FCAW, and GTAW (TIG) as required.
- Interpret welding drawings, WPSs, and fabrication specifications.
- Conduct repairs on cracked, worn, or damaged rig components.
- Prepare materials (cutting, grinding, fit-up) prior to welding.
- Ensure weld quality meets AWS, API, and client standards.
- Participate in inspections and NDT coordination when required.
- Maintain welding equipment and consumables in safe working condition.
- Follow hot-work permits, fire watch procedures, and site safety rules.
Skills and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of welding experience on drilling rigs or heavy oilfield equipment.
- Proven experience welding structural steel and pressure-related components.
Preferred Certifications
- AWS-certified welder (D1.1 or equivalent).
- Rig safety and hot-work certifications.
