Overview
The Fab Trainee position is an entry-level opportunity designed for highly motivated individuals with a strong background in manufacturing, with a particular emphasis on or foundational knowledge of welding and/or machinery operations. This role is critical to the production team, assisting in the fabrication and processing of steel components. The Trainee will receive extensive on-the-job training, working under the guidance of experienced professionals to develop skills in the steel fabrication trade, ensure product quality, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment. Candidates with prior experience or training in various welding processes are strongly encouraged to apply.
Skill Development & Fabrication Support: Actively participate in all training opportunities, demonstrating a commitment to learning essential fabrication techniques. This includes assisting with and learning various welding processes such as MIG, TIG, or Stick, or operating machinery like CNC machines, press brakes, and plasma cutters.
Welding Preparation & Fit-up: Assist experienced welders by performing essential tasks like grinding, cleaning, beveling, cutting, and fit-up of steel components to prepare them for welding.
Manufacturing Support: Assist senior fabricators and machine operators in daily production tasks related to steel processing.
Quality Control: Learn and apply quality assurance procedures, inspecting work for defects and ensuring finished products meet strict specifications and tolerances.
Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe operation of tools and equipment.
Material Handling: Assist with the safe movement, staging, and organization of raw steel materials and finished components using overhead cranes or forklifts (if certified/trained).
Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic, routine cleaning and maintenance of shop tools and work areas to ensure efficient operation and organization (5S principles).
We are looking for 1 person for first shift (6AM-4:30 PM, Monday- Friday) and 1 person for third shift (5:30 PM - 5 AM Monday-Thursday and 5:30 PM-2 AM on Friday)
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods (up to 10-12 hours), lift heavy materials (up to 50 pounds), and perform physically demanding tasks in a shop environment.
Work Environment: This role requires working in a steel manufacturing environment that involves continuous exposure to airborne particulates, metal dust, and metal shavings, which necessitates the proper use of respiratory protection (e.g., respirators or masks) and other required PPE.
The environment may include exposure to loud noise, heat, sparks, and various chemicals inherent to metal processing.
Skills and Experience
Proven strong background in a manufacturing or industrial environment is required. Demonstrated foundational knowledge, prior schooling, or hands-on experience in either welding (any process, even hobbyist or vocational) or machinery operation (e.g., machining, metal forming). Highly motivated, reliable, possess a strong work ethic, and demonstrate a keen willingness to learn the steel fabrication trade. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical certification or vocational training in welding or metal fabrication is highly advantageous.
