Overview
A Reach Truck Operator operates equipment to load, unload, and move materials within the warehouse, ensuring product accuracy and maintaining a clean work environment. Key duties include daily equipment inspections, accurate inventory placement using warehouse systems, performing order picking, and collaborating with team members while adhering to safety and operational procedures.
Equipment Operation:
- Safely and efficiently operate a reach truck to transport and store products and materials throughout the warehouse.
Inventory Management:
- Accurately receive, store, and distribute materials, ensuring correct placement on racks, shelves, and bins based on type, size, or product code.
Order Fulfillment:
- Assemble and fulfill customer orders by picking items and preparing them for shipment.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Conduct daily inspections of reach truck equipment to ensure it is in good working order.
Safety & Environment:
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, following all health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) policies and procedures.
System Utilization:
- Utilize the warehouse operating system to receive, print orders, and locate inventory.
Teamwork & Development:
- Collaborate with team members, participate in training and coaching sessions, and perform additional duties to support warehouse operations.
Skills and Experience
- Experience: At least 1–2 years of experience operating various material handling equipment, preferably in a warehouse or distribution environment.
- Equipment operation: Certification or proven ability to operate a reach truck, forklift, and other warehouse machinery.
- Technical aptitude: Familiarity with computerized warehouse systems and RF scanning technology.
- Physical fitness: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, as well as lift, twist, and carry products.
- Attention to detail: Strong focus on accuracy in inventory counts and order fulfillment to minimize errors.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Problem-solving: Capacity to identify and resolve issues related to inventory or equipment.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written skills for understanding instructions and completing paperwork.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is often preferred.
- Work environment: Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment with exposure to temperature changes, noise, and dust.
