Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Energy Strategy and Utilities, this position leads, prioritizes, and manages the overall implementation of engineering design services for the university, including electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental, energy performance, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains design standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure Emory ranks among the top institutions for design innovation and energy efficiency.
- Establishes and maintains the Utility Master Plan to ensure the reliability of utility systems supporting both daily and critical operations, aligned with the campus’s Master Plan.
- Collaborates with operations and maintenance groups to ensure design standards are met and operational efficiency is achieved.
- Identifies opportunities for renewable energy technologies and oversees the Energy Manager responsible for electric and gas procurement and rate negotiations.
- Provides monthly and quarterly energy data reports to senior management on conservation efforts, including re-commissioning.
- Leads planning, design, and documentation for campus infrastructure and site engineering services.
- Represents the department on campus, community, and county committees; supports long-range campus planning and improvement initiatives.
- Plans, organizes, and assigns work/projects to maximize resources.
- Hires, supervises, evaluates, and promotes professional development for a staff of engineers and analysts.
- Manages departmental budget, including monthly review of financial reports.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 7 years’ experience in design, construction, and operation of large HVAC and district steam/chilled water systems.
Experience with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements.
3+ years of supervisory experience, with proven ability to handle multiple priorities.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Georgia preferred.
Strong knowledge of building codes and applicable state/federal regulations.
Experience implementing energy conservation measures and managing district energy systems for steam, chilled water, and electricity.
