What You’ll Do as a Structural Welder:
- Responsible for planning, setting up, and executing high-quality hand and machine welding operations on structural components like beams, columns, and trusses, ensuring all products meet strict strength and safety standards.
- Welding Operations: Perform hand welding and operate machinery (rod, wire, tractor, and submerged arc) to make lap, butt, fillet, and end welds in all positions.
- Fabrication & Fitting: Sequence welding operations, splice plates, weld flanges to webs, and perform minor fitting or surface preparation (grinding, chipping, brushing) as needed.
- Equipment & Tools: Use blueprints, specifications, dial gauges, meters, and various hand tools to ensure proper metal fusion, strength, and structural integrity.
- Material Handling: Safely operate hoists and overhead cranes to position heavy materials for welding or to move finished pieces to holding areas.
- Safety & Leadership: Maintain a clean work area, report unsafe conditions immediately, and help train or check the work of lower-classification welders and helpers.
Skills and Experience
What You'll Bring as a Preferred Candidate:
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for the duration of a full work shift and perform frequent climbing, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Lifting Capability: Ability to lift over 25 pounds on a continuous basis, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Technical Skill: Proficiency with various welding processes, blueprints, precision gauges, and overhead crane operation.
- Safety Mindset: A strong commitment to workplace safety regulations and a sharp eye for detecting equipment or material defects.
