What You’ll Do as a Structural Welder / Fitter:
- Perform high-quality structural welding on beams, columns, trusses, and other steel components using Stick (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), Flux Core (FCAW), and Submerged Arc (Sub Arc) welding processes.
- Plan, set up, and sequence welding operations to produce strong, accurate welds that meet quality and safety standards.
- Read blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications while using precision measuring tools, including tape measures, gauges, and meters.
- Fit, splice, grind, chip, and prepare structural components prior to and after welding as needed.
- Safely move and position large steel materials using hoists and overhead cranes. (Crane operation training is provided after six months of employment.)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety procedures.
- Assist with training and supporting less experienced welders when needed.
- Successfully pass both a Structural Welding Test and Stick Welding Test prior to placement.
Skills and Experience
What You'll Bring as a Preferred Candidate:
- 1-3 years of experience performing structural welding using Stick (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), Flux Core (FCAW), and Submerged Arc (Sub Arc) welding processes. Three years is preferred.
- Ability to successfully pass a Structural Welding Test, Stick Welding Test, and Tape Measure Test.
- Ability to accurately read blueprints, welding symbols, and precision measurements.
- Willingness to work a significant amount of overtime. This facility is currently operating 7 days per week, so schedule flexibility is essential.
- Physical ability to stand throughout the shift and frequently climb, bend, stoop, reach, and lift 25 pounds continuously and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and producing high-quality workmanship.
- Previous overhead crane experience is a plus; however, all teammates must complete the company's required training before independently operating overhead cranes.
- Steel toe boots are required. All other PPE is provided, and be sure to ask about our steel toe boot discount program.
