Job Description
Ōnin Staffing is hiring a Fleet Mechanic for a client in the Albuquerque area. This is a great opportunity for an experienced mechanic who is skilled in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles.
The Fleet Mechanic will be responsible for keeping equipment safe, reliable, and ready for field operations. This position requires strong mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work both in a shop environment and in the field when needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on drilling rigs, pump pulling rigs, heavy trucks, trailers, pumps, compressors, generators, and auxiliary equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues
- Fabricate and replace hydraulic hoses
- Perform MIG/stick field welding
- Inspect equipment for safety, wear, and compliance standards
- Perform annual DOT truck inspections and maintain required records
- Maintain accurate service, repair, and inspection records using software platforms
- Coordinate repairs to minimize equipment downtime and support field operations
- Respond to field breakdowns and emergency repairs as needed
- Properly use and maintain tools, parts inventory, and shop equipment
- Follow all safety policies, environmental regulations, and OSHA requirements
- Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and maintenance needs to leadership
- Coordinate with specialized service vendors, manufacturers, and dealers as needed
- Order and manage parts inventory
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized repair shop environment
Skills and Experience
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical school certification preferred
- 5+ years of experience as a fleet or heavy equipment mechanic preferred
- Experience in water well drilling, oil and gas, construction, or mining is a plus
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and PTO-driven equipment
- Experience with drilling rigs, pump pulling rigs, water trucks, flatbeds, and support vehicles is highly desirable
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVD record required
- Ability to read schematics, manuals, and use diagnostic tools
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to use computer software for maintenance, ordering, and research
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with OEM diagnostic tools
- Valid CDL preferred
- OSHA 30 certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 45 days of hire
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
- Ability to work in both outdoor and shop environments
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to travel to job sites as needed
- Candidates are expected to supply their own basic hand tools; specialty tools are provided
