Job Description
The CNC Programmer is responsible for operating CNC machines which include Mazak Mill and Haas Mills.
Job Responsibilities
· Able to interpret drawings, manuals, specifications or first article parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and set up requirements
- Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by the company’s Quality System
- Communicates with production leads, supervisors or Manager, for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues
- Maintain a safe working environment for all machine shop employees
- Perform CNC operations or any other task assigned to produce quality parts that meet all print requirements
· Determine setup requirements and select tooling speeds and feeds for optimized tool life and program efficiency.
· Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine the best tooling and machining process.
- Responsible for completing changes to existing CNC programs including set-ups and edit programs with minimum assistance from shop leads
- Follow detailed operation instructions, processes and procedures
- Able to safely and correctly operate hand and power tools and machinery, including forklifts, semi-automated material handling equipment, and overhead cranes
- Participate in training and continuing education
· Performs other duties as assigned
· Work overtime as required
Skills and Experience
Required Qualifications, Education, Skills and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in set up, operation and programming of CNC Mills
- Experience writing and editing computerized numerical control programs
- Experience setting up and operating CNC machines with understanding of cutting tool selection and application.
- Understanding of G & M code
- Experience blueprint reading skills and GD&T understanding.
- Able to use precision measuring instruments. Instruments should include but are not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales
- Knowledge and experience with horizontal milling and vertical milling
· Basic math skills needed for CNC programming calculations
· Must be able to work with little or no supervision in a safe and efficient manner
- Experienced in the proper and safe use of hand and light power tools
- Able to lift parts weighing in excess of 50 pounds (assistance when needed) and to work in a bending, standing, or squatting positions for long periods of time (excess of one hour)
