Overview
Summary
The Inventory Control Technician is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting manufacturing operations by performing timely and precise inventory transactions. This role ensures that materials used in production are properly issued, tracked, and recorded within inventory management systems. The technician works closely with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve discrepancies, conduct cycle counts, and maintain accurate inventory labeling and documentation.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform electronic inventory transactions including issuing and reserving materials for manufacturing jobs.
- Record production quantities and process the completion and closure of manufacturing jobs in the inventory system.
- Move materials within the facility both physically and electronically to ensure accurate inventory tracking.
- Verify transaction accuracy by confirming item numbers, lot numbers, and quantities against manufacturing documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve inventory discrepancies by researching records and coordinating with relevant departments.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to collect data and resolve data entry or inventory tracking issues.
- Perform mathematical calculations related to inventory processes, including density conversions and ratio calculations.
- Conduct stock checks by locating, identifying, and counting materials in storage areas.
- Ensure materials are properly labeled, dated, and organized according to inventory procedures.
- Perform cycle counts based on system-generated count schedules and participate in periodic full physical inventory counts.
- Investigate inventory variances and recommend corrective actions to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Complete required documentation and paperwork related to inventory transactions and manufacturing job processing.
- Maintain organized records and ensure compliance with company inventory procedures.
Skills and Experience

- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with computer-based inventory management or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing inventory transactions.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to materials and inventory processes.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including manufacturing and quality departments.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
