Overview
The Packaging Associate is responsible for packaging and preparing finished products for safe, accurate, and damage-free shipment in accordance with cleanroom standards, job specifications, customer requirements, and company standards. This role performs hands-on packaging, material handling, light fabrication of packaging materials, labeling, and quality inspections while following established safety procedures, cleanroom protocols, and standard operating practices. Your primary focus on packaging and shipment preparation activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Package finished products in accordance with customer specifications to ensure safe, damage-free shipment
- Accurately measure materials using tape measures and other measuring tools such as shrinkwrap equipment, pallet jacks, lifting hoists, etc
- Prepare pallets and protective packaging materials as required
- Score, build, and modify skids and packaging structures as required. Verify product counts, configurations, and documentation prior to packaging
- Apply labels, markings, and shipping documentation accurately
- Inspect finished assemblies and packaging for quality, accuracy, and compliance
- Move materials and finished goods to and from the packaging and shipping areas using pallet jacks or rolling carts.
- Perform light woodworking and metal-related tasks to prepare packaging materials, skids, and crates
- Deburr metal components to ensure safety, quality, and proper fit
- Assemble components and packaging materials using hand and power tools
- Maintaining clean work stations and assisting in end of shift janitorial funtions, abiding by all safety regulations
- Perform backup warehouse duties, including pallet building, banding, staging, and loading or unloading trucks
- Support inventory handling activities such as staging materials for shipment
Working conditions are typical of a cleanroom manufacturing and packaging environment. Work involves frequent lifting, material handling, and use of packaging and material-handling equipment. Required personal protective equipment may include, but is not limited to, cleanroom garments, gloves, hearing protection, dust masks, safety harnesses, and closed-toe work shoes. Safety glasses are required at all times during shop operations. Employees must comply with all company safety, cleanroom, and dress code requirements.
Skills and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read and use a tape measure (SAE) accurately and use power tools
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills; high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Proven experience in assembly and shipping documentation within a manufacturing or production environment
- Hands-on experience with woodworking and metal materials
- Experience deburring metal parts
- Familiarity with scoring and building skids or crates
