Custodian

Overview

The Custodian performs a wide variety of custodial duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment. Performs routine and comprehensive custodial maintenance of assigned facilities. Secures and unlocks facilities. Cleans and disinfects all campus facilities (restrooms, offices, classrooms, labs, hallways and child care center); stocks facilities with paper and supplies. Vacuums and spot cleans carpets and furniture; sweeps and mops tile floors. Cleans marker boards, desktops, windows, doors and walls. Collects and removes trash in accordance with established procedures. Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance; reports security and maintenance concerns. Identifies stains and uses proper chemicals for removal. Adheres to safety and health regulations. Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment. Moves and assembles furniture. Sets up for special events, as directed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to meet established cleaning and performance standards
Thorough knowledge of custodial tools, equipment, and cleaning techniques
Knowledge of basic maintenance procedures and custodial equipment operation
Proficient in the proper use of cleaning agents and chemicals in compliance with state and federal regulations
Ability to safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials
Ability to identify stains and select appropriate cleaning solutions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
Basic problem-solving skills in standardized situations
Demonstrated commitment to organizational mission and values
Willingness and ability to work varying hours, locations, and rotating shifts

Experience

Prior experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance work preferred
Experience using a wide range of cleaning chemicals and custodial equipment
Experience following established cleaning schedules and performance standards
Experience working independently with minimal supervision
One of the following must be met:
- High School Diploma or GED with one (1) year of custodial experience
- 20 years of custodial experience and be able to read and write in English or Spanish.
