High Containment Lab Engineer

Overview

The High Containment Laboratory Engineer provides specialized engineering oversight, auditing, and operational support for BSL-3, ABSL-3, and BSL-2 laboratory environments. This role focuses on evaluating, reviewing, tracking, and verifying the performance of laboratory control systems—not creating or programming controls.

The engineer collaborates with facilities teams, biosafety groups, laboratory leadership, and operations partners to ensure containment laboratories remain safe, compliant, well-maintained, and functioning at optimal performance. This position plays a key role in reviewing system behaviors, auditing preventive maintenance, and supporting design reviews, construction coordination, and commissioning activities for laboratory projects.

  • Support lab shutdowns, commissioning, and re-commissioning activities

  • Participate in lab design reviews and construction projects

  • Maintain clear documentation, testing records, and reports

  • Support energy-efficient lab operations without compromising safety

  • Collaborate with EH&S, Facilities, researchers, hospitals, and research leadership
