Overview
The BGA Rework Technician is responsible for the precise repair, removal, and replacement of Ball Grid Array (BGA) and other Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) components on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). This position plays a key role in restoring defective boards to full functionality, ensuring product quality, and supporting continuous improvement in electronic manufacturing processes. This role requires strong soldering skills, attention to detail, and experience using specialized rework equipment in a clean, controlled environment.
Skills and Experience
Component Removal: Safely desolder and remove faulty BGA or SMT components from PCBs using precise heat control and rework equipment. Site Preparation: Clean and prepare pads on the PCB; apply fresh solder paste or flux as needed. Component Placement & Reflow: Accurately align new components and perform controlled reflow soldering to achieve reliable solder joints. Inspection & Quality Assurance: Inspect reworked assemblies under magnification or microscope to identify solder defects, misalignment, or bridging. Testing: Perform post-rework electrical or functional tests to ensure proper board operation. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of rework activities, including components replaced, test results, and process parameters. Process Improvement: Contribute to refining rework procedures and implementing best practices for improved yield and quality.
