Overview

Ready to Build, Design, and See Your Engineering Work Come to Life?

If you enjoy hands-on engineering, real-world system integration, and seeing your control panel designs move from schematic to startup—this is the kind of role engineers stay in for the long haul. We’re recruiting for a growing industrial systems integrator seeking a Controls / Electrical Systems Engineer who wants more than just desk design work. You’ll be in the field, in the shop, and in the design seat—owning projects from concept through commissioning.

  • This is a direct hire opportunity, exclusively through Ōnin Staffing.
  • Offering competitive pay for your skills and expertise
  • Work on custom industrial control systems & panel builds
  • See your designs implemented in real customer environments

  • Variety in your day—not the same project on repeat
  • High-impact role with visibility across engineering, production, and customer teams
  • Opportunity to influence designs, standards, and improvements
  • Travel exposure without 100% road-warrior burnout (≤ 50%)
  • Collaborate with skilled panel techs, field service teams, and leadership
  • Be the go-to technical expert—not just another CAD seat

What You’ll Be Doing as a Controls Engineer:
  • Design industrial control panels and integrated systems (UL 508A standards)
  • Create schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
  • Develop PLC / HMI programs for mechanical and process systems
  • Build and present customer submittal packages and timelines
  • Support panel shop and field technicians with technical guidance
  • Travel to customer sites for evaluation, install support, and troubleshooting
  • Prototype, validate, and troubleshoot system installations
  • Investigate component and system failures
  • Help develop and improve panel build and test processes
  • Participate in engineering and customer change order processes
  • Coordinate with purchasing, vendors, and customer stakeholders
  • Manage multiple projects at different stages simultaneously

Skills and Experience

What You'll Bring as a Preferred Candidate:
  • AAS or BS in Engineering — or equivalent technical experience

  • PLC / HMI programming experience
  • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) experience
  • Industrial control panel & system integration knowledge
  • UL 508 experience strongly preferred
  • AutoCAD proficiency

  • Solid troubleshooting and analytical ability
  • Comfort working with customers and cross-functional teams
  • Self-directed mindset with strong ownership and accountability

Work Environment Snapshot:

  • Climate-controlled production areas
  • Frequent computer and design work
  • Standing, bending, and shop-floor collaboration
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Occasional off-shift support
  • Travel up to 50%
